GuthRIE, ky
logan todd regional water commission
Integrated Process Solutions, Inc. was contracted by the Logan Todd Regional Water Commission to design, build, program, and implement a cellular telemetry system to replace the existing radio system that was installed in 2003. The existing radio telemetry system utilized serial radios, spread spectrum radios, and a combination of Allen Bradley Micro 1500 and SLC PLCs. The existing PLC’s were replaced with Allen Bradley CompactLogix 5069 series PLCs and Sierra cellular modems. In addition to the PLC and radio replacements, new Ethernet-based Operator Interface Panels (OIPs) were installed at 18 locations to replace the original Panelview 550 OIPs. Special design considerations were implemented to reduce data to be as cost effective as possible and minimize annual recurring costs. Remote sites included 23 water storage tanks, 14 Meter stations, 9 booster stations, and a Combined Sewer Outfall (CSO) station. The existing radio system was maintained and operated concurrently with the new cellular system while switching out all of facilities. IPS worked closely with LTRWC staff from design and planning to installation and implementation. IPS provided new system drawings and documentation for all sites, and provided Owner training to allow the Owner to remotely connect to any station over the cellular network.
LTRWC sells its water wholesale to thirteen member utilities who then sell it retail to many communities. Maintenance of transmission lines, tanks, pumps, metering stations, and the treatment plant contributes to the well being of over sixty thousand plus individuals.
PLCs: Allen Bradley ControlLogix; MCCs: Rockwell Automation; HMI SCADA: Ignition Perspective by Inductive Automation.
